Burning down the flame to watch it wax and wane. Burning down to put it out again. Fiction Stranger now. In truth I don't see how. Fiction Stranger now, but how do we stay on the ground? Spelling out your name, spelling out - identify the game. Spelling out your name, spelling out - I mean to say the same. Fiction Stranger now. In truth I don't see how. Fiction Stranger now, but how do we stay on the ground?

Rushing 01:38
With your kisses feel the sound of a rushing bloodstream! I row down to you, I row down! With your carresses feel the sound of a rushing bloodstream! I swim down to you, I swim down! Bless your soul! I watch your breath rise and fall I watch the tide roll in and out With your smile think things away!

Nocturne 09:28
The door stays open all night long. The air sits still. The walls quietly stand shrouded in shadow. The door stays open. The bed mumbles to furniture saying nothing. The cieling listens for a very long time. The sky stays open all night long. The air sits still. The sky stays open all night long. The clouds sit still. The stars listen for a very long....

about

THIRD BORDER was a band I put together in NYC. We performed from 2003 to 2010. “Sun of Water, Sea of Light” was our second release, recorded at the now defunct Batcave Studios, officially released on the late Julian Mill's label Radial Records in 2006. This CD was selected to be 1 of 48 releases to be nominated for the Grammys best Alternative Rock Album of 2006! Needless to say, our jaws dropped when we heard word! Though we did not get nominated, the proximity to such an event was a real plus!

I played guitar, wrote the string arrangements, sang and was the principal songwriter except for our cover of Syd Barrett's “Jugband Blues”. I meant to include Syd's song on this CD prior to hearing of his death in 2005. My brothers Laurence and Roger produced the record giving me helpful hints on how to go about the recording sessions. They also played cornet, Bb clarinet, keyboard, recorder, and kazoo. Pinky Weitzman played viola and stroh violin, Gerard Smith played bass on a couple tracks and Jarrod Ruby played drums. Lisa Donald played cello.

Much of what I have delved in over the past three decades has been abstract guitar-scapes, avant jazz trios, or orchestral work for saxophone orchestra. Third Border was a change of pace for me. To an extent, I was getting back to my roots. Destroy All Monsters (70's) and Nonfiction (80's) were the last bands I had written songs for – long before Third Border. Looking back at this music now, I feel proud for many reasons and grateful for all those who engaged in the creative process.

"Ben Miller played alto sax for Ann Arbor legends Destroy All Monsters during the group’s second incarnation with Niagara and Ron Asheton at the helm. As the driving force behind Third Border, however, Miller’s talent as a writer and performer becomes clear, and what leaps out is not without its own quirky charm. Rather than simply replay Miller’s art punk past, THIRD BORDER mix Prog with 60s UK psychedelic pop. Their timely version of Syd Barrett’s Jugband Blues is a fine example of the latter, an eccentrically orchestrated tribute which goes out in fine style with a mad marching band of saxophones and kazoos."
