about

LAYER was recorded/composed by viewing brother Roger Miller's frottage drawings and interpreting them through "music". This process is loosely called Picture Music, which isalso referred to as using Graphic Scores. The title of each composition is the title of the artwork itself. Responses during the creative process from viewing the artwork were both emotive and literal. Each recorded piece per frottage drawing is approximately two minutes long -- a duration in which one might view a work of art. Ben Miller used his multiphonic guitar (The Zoo) through a variety of foot pedals with minimal overdubbing. This was Miller's 3rd CDR release focusing on his modified instrument. The work was recorded in 2005 in NYC. It is now available for download!

"Benjamin Miller and I have been co-artists/musicians for years (and years). In this instance, my drawings influenced his music. At other times, his music influenced my music and his imagery influenced my music and/or imagery. That's what we get for (perpetually) growing up together."
_ Roger Clark Miller.
